Concurrent credit enrollment to take place

Enrollment and tuition payment with Fort Hays State University and Barton County Community College for spring concurrent credit courses will be held on Tuesday Jan. 14 from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Library.

To enroll in any BCCC concurrent course, students must have a score of at least 18 on the ACT reading subtest or have a 40 on the reading skills subtest of the ASSET exam.

To enroll in any FHSU concurrent course, students must either have a composite score of at least 21 on the ACT or ACT Residual, combined verbal and mathematical score on the SAT Reasoning Test of at least 1000, a combined score on the PSAT/NMSQT of at least 150, a composite score of at least 21 on the PLAN test or a score of 43 or higher on the reading skills subtest of the ASSET and a score of 39 or higher on the numerical skills subtest of the ASSET. For a student to enroll in FHSU’s College Algebra course, they must have scores on the ACT math subtest and the ACT science subtest that combine for a total of 40 or higher, and have at least an 18 on both subtests or have a score of at least 15 on the FHSU math placement exam.

Students are limited to accumulating 24 concurrent credit hours prior to graduation, the prices of which have been altered since last year’s enrollment. BCCC concurrent credit tuition is $91 per credit hour, making a typical three-credit hour course $273. FHSU concurrent credit tuition is $182 per credit hour, making a typical three-credit hour course $546, not including the one-time $30 FHSU matriculation fee if it has not already been paid.

If one finds money for concurrent credit fees hard to provide, financial aid is available. BCCC offers the Barton Boost Scholarship to high school students who receive free or reduced lunches. Qualifying students are eligible to receive up to six free credit hours per semester. This scholarship does not include the cost of books.

FHSU’s financial aid includes a scholarship called the PEACE Award. Upon successful completion of a course, student paying the required tuition will receive a PEACE Award Scholarship of $35 per credit hour to be use within a year toward another FHSU course.

If students have any questions they can call the Counseling Office at (785) 623-2608.
