Select math students competed in Math Relays on Nov.8. The team finished the competition first overall in the 4-5-6A division.

“I think the team did great,” instructor Dustin Dreher said. “Taking first place – that’s the first time in 20 years. Overall, the team did a good job.”

The Math Relays team competes in math-related events from number sense to trigonometry. There are 6 events in the whole competition and the team placed at least top 10 in each one.

Students are chosen for the Math Relays based on teacher recommendation.

Event 1: Using Number Sense:                                                            

9th:  7th place Carson Kieffer, 8th Jada Thomas, 9th Wes Oakley

10th:  1st Andrew Duke

11th:  10th Team (Taylor Weidenhaft, Lynsie Hansen, & Carson Ackerman)

12th:

Event 2: Trigonometry (Juniors and Seniors only)

11th:  7th Team (Peter Lee, Carson Ackerman, Nathan Erbert)

12th:

Event 3: Algebraic Manipulations

9th:  1st Jada Thomas

10th:  1st Andrew Duke, 5th Dalyn Schwarz, 6th Nic Park

11th: 9th Team (Peter Lee, Lynsie Hansen, Nathan Erbert)

12th: 9th Team (Kallie Leiker, Spencer Wittkorn, Isabelle Braun), 3rd Kaleigh Ashbaugh

Event 4:  Informal Geometry and Measurement

9th:  10th Wes Oakley

10th: 1st Andrew Duke, 1st Team (Nic Park, Dalyn Schwarz, Jada Thomas)

11th: 7th Peter Lee, 9th Lynsie Hansen

12th: 5th Team (Kallie Leiker, Kayli Potter, Isabelle Braun)

Event 5: Applications of Algebra and Arithmetic

9th:  1st Team (Jada Thomas, Wes Oakley, Carson Kieffer)

10th: 3rd Team (Andrew Duke, Nic Park, Dalyn Schwarz)

11th: 7th Carson Ackerman

12th: 10th Spencer Wittkorn

Event 6: Calculations with Calculators
