Senior Katie Brungardt was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year.

Brungardt won all five tournaments this year, and finished with 60 points.

“I worked hard to get this,” Brungardt said.

Since her freshman year, Brungardt has been involved with the Lady Indian’s golf team.

“To prepare for a tournament, I usually drink lots of water and make sure I have all my things together,” Brungardt said. “Lots of practice helps, too.”

Brungardt said her favorite memory from the golf season was when a coach from Dodge City announced she had won all five tournaments.

“I had absolutely no idea I did that,” Brungardt said.

The Lady Indians were also named WAC champions for 2016.

Brungardt and senior Talyn Kleweno received 1st  team all WAC, and an Honorable Mention was given to sophomore Emily McGuire.

“I am very proud of my team,” Brungardt said. “They have each worked very hard, and they improved a lot as individuals and as a whole team.”

Brungardt said she plans to continue with college at Fort Hays State University.

“It’s an awesome feeling that we get to call ourselves champions,” Brungardt said. “We all came together and won something great.”
