Boys swimming hosts home meet in Hays on Jan. 30

Towards the end of the month, on Jan. 30, the Hays High School boys swim team competed at its home meet at Fort Hays State University. The team took second overall with 433 points.

Here are the individual and relay standings for the team members:

50-meter Freestyle: second Place – Marshall Sook, fifth place – Karsen Flaska, seventh place – Leo Hernandez

100-meter Backstroke: third place – LeRoy Goodspeed

100-meter Breaststroke: fifth place – Conner Miller, sixth place – Jack Zeller

100-meter Freestyle: fifth place – Cedric Durr, sixth place – Jude Hileman, seventh place – Maison Desaire

200-meter Freestyle Relay: first place – Chase Zadina, Karsen Flaska, Leo Hernandez and Marshall Sook; third place – Jude Hileman, LeRoy Goodspeed, Jack Zeller and Maison Desaire

200-meter Medley Relay: fourth place – Cedric Durr, Jack Zeller, Karsen Flaska and Leo Hernandez

200-meter Freestyle: fourth place – LeRoy Goodspeed, ninth place – Evan Powell

400-meter Freestyle Relay: second place – Mason Desaire, Jude Hileman, Cedric Durr and Marshall Sook; fourth place – Justin Reeves, Dominic Hernandez, Leo Hernandez and Karsen Flaska

This year, the boys swim team had a 200-meter freestyle relay team make possible state time. Flaska, Leo Hernandez, Sook and Zadina swam an overall time of 1:42.14, about one second faster than the time needed to qualify to possibly make state this year.

“I think we did well this year at our home meet,” Sook said. “I’m hopeful for a WAC title this year and am excited for our possible state qualification.”
