Boys golf participates in multiple tournaments in April

Junior Blake Buckles hits his second shot on hole 8 at the Smoky Hill Country Club Invitational on April 18th.

The boys golf team had five meets during the month of April in McPherson, Newton, Hays, Dodge City and Hutchinson.


On Thursday, April 7, the team took four golfers to participate at the McPherson Invitational Tournament at Turkey Creek Golf Course. As a team, they took sixth with a total of 388 strokes.

Senior Ashton Hernandez shot a 93 for 19th place, junior Blake Buckles took 22nd with a score of 94, junior Landen Clark had a score of 100 which tied him for 35th and junior Ashton Bickle placed 37th after shooting a 101.


Their next tournament was the annual Newton Invitational Tournament at Sand Creek Station Golf Course on April 14. A total of 16 teams were in attendance, and each player played 18 holes.

Buckles tied for 32nd with a score of 92, sophomore Braxton Banker tied for 34th after shooting a 93, Clark tied for 48th with a 98 and Hernandez shot a 103 and tied for 56th.

As a team, they put up 386, which earned them ninth place.


Hays hosted the next tournament at Smoky Hill Country Club on April 18, the Bob Blazer Hays High Invitational. They shot a 368 as a team and placed fifth.

Buckles tied for 11th with after a round of 85, Bickle and Banker both shot a 94 to tie for 24th and Hernandez placed 29th with a 95.

Dodge City

On April 21, they played at the Dodge City Invitational at the Mariah Hills Golf Course and took seventh as a team with a score of 356.

Hernandez took 33rd with an 87, Clark shot an 88 for 35th, Buckles earned 39th with a score of 89 and Bickle placed 42nd with a 92.


Finally, they went to Hutchinson to play in some very windy conditions at the Carey Park Golf Course on April 30.

Buckles placed 80th with an 87, Bickle followed with an 89 to place 88th, Hernandez tied for 116th with a 95 and Clark shot a 96 for 121st.

They placed 22nd as a team with a total score of 367.
