Golf takes 3rd at Great Bend Invitational

At the Great Bend Invitational on Oct. 8, Hays scored a 214 as a team on the nine-hole course to put them in third place out of a five-team field.

Junior Elissa Jensen finished with a score of 52 to take 11th place and freshmen Rhian Patterson and Katie Brungardt both scored a 53 to tie for 12th place.

Junior Lexie Schaben finished with a 56 to tie for 16th place with sophomore Taylor Deboer followed by junior Macie Mayo with a 57 in a tie for 20th place.

Other team scores were Garden City, 181; Great Bend, 193; Dodge City, 217; and Liberal, 229.

Brungardt is in sixth place in the WAC standing and is a part of the All WAC Team this year. Schaben is at eighth place followed by Deboer in ninth and Jensen in 10th, all of them are in the Honorable Mention Team.

Abbi Shaddix from Garden City scored a 40 to place first individually and received WAC Player of the Year. Her coach, Melinda Base received WAC Coach of the Year as the team won their 5th straight WAC Championship.

The next action for the lady Indians is at regionals on Oct. 14th.
