Fort Hays director of Career Services speaks to students on Nov. 19

Karen McCullough is the director of Career Services at Fort Hays State University.

The Director of Career Services of Fort Hays State University, Karen McCullough, spoke to students on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

In her job, McCullough provides support services to students and alumni who are seeking professional employment opportunities, such as internships and full-time jobs.

McCullough went to high school in WaKeeney and went to college at FHSU. She originally went into business and has a bachelors degree in Business Administration and a masters degree in Educational Administration/Higher Education from FHSU.

McCullough held the role of Assistant Director of International Student Services at FHSU before joining Career Services. She has presented many webinars and workshops on career readiness, employment for international students, international orientation and first-year experience programs at conferences.

During her presentation, McCullough said she had no idea that Career Services would be what she ended up going into. She said in high school, she did not even know what career services was. However, she said she really enjoys the career path she ended up taking.

McCullough’s advice to others is to follow their passion and to keep an open mind when choosing a career. She ended the presentation on a good note, stating not to be scared, because you will end up on the path you were supposed to be on.
