On Nov. 30, Hays High School’s girls basketball team kicked off its season in the three-day tournament that lasted until Dec. 2, the Hays City Shootout.
The lady Indians went 2-1, taking second in the opening tournament. The girls won their first game against Thomas More Prep on Nov. 30, 50-27, and went on to play Washburn-Rural in their second game on Dec. 1. Hays High won a close game against Washburn-Rural, 34-27, to advance to the championship. In the championship on Dec. 2, the girls played Olathe West, losing 60-34 to earn second place in the tournament.
“I was proud of our girls,” coach Len Melvin said. “We ran out of gas in the championship game, but overall, we had a good weekend.”
