The boys basketball team placed second at the Colby Orange & Black Tournament, defeating Hugoton and McCook, but suffered a loss in the championship game to Sunrise Academy.
In the first round of the tournament the team played Hugoton, in which they won the game 46-29.
After that they played McCook in the semifinals of the tournament. The Indians won the game 48-33.
For the first place game of the tournament, the Indians played Sunrise Academy, losing the game 32-44.
Against Hugoton the team held its opponent to just five points in the first half.
In the game against McCook, seniors Seth Tophoj and Zack Gaughan had 33 of the team’s 48 points.
Sunrise Academy’s team looked like giants compared to the Indians. Sunrise’s team averaged a height of 6-4 1/4, while four of our five starters are all 5-11 or shorter. With six minutes left in the game, the team was within one point of Sunrise, in which they then started to pull away to get the final score.
The next game for the team is Feb. 1, at Salina South.
