The boys varsity tennis team dominated in Liberal for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) meet on Monday, April 29. This was the first team WAC win for Hays boys tennis in 22 years, with all players who attended taking first.

Senior Colin Clark was awarded WAC Player of the Year award, and Hays High tennis coach Kayla Brown received the Coach of the Year award.

Playing singles were Clark and junior Ken Shaffer. Playing doubles were senior Xavier Catura and junior Kale Schwien, along with seniors Henry Fitzthum and Carsen Riat.

“The WAC team had high expectations of themselves from the start of the season,” Brown said. “They were determined to win and were able to accomplish that goal. And, having the full 16-0 sweep made it that much more exciting. I am impressed with how they went out, played hard and left it all on the courts. They have certainly been examples to their teammates of continued dedication and effort.”
