USD 489 to approve the hire of new head football, head track coach

The Hays Unified School District announced that the USD 489 Board of Education has been asked to approve the hire of a new head football and head track coach for the fall of 2014.

The approval will be confirmed at the BOE meeting on March 10.

The selection committee has recommended Bo Black, the current strength and conditioning teacher, head football and head track coach at Great Bend.

Black will begin his position with USD 489 this summer.

Black is a former football player and graduate of Emporia State University and has spent the past 18 years in education, 13 of which were spent at Great Bend where he has led his football program to eight play-off appearances, eight conference championships, state runner-up in 2006 and state track champions in 2006.

Black graduated high school from Elkhart (Texas High School) and was the assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Lancaster (Texas High School) for five years.

Black and his family are looking forward to coming to Hays and becoming a part of the community.

“I am looking forward to meeting and working with the staff and students of Hays High,” Black said. “We will miss Great Bend, and all of the friends and memories we have made there the past 13 years. I am looking forward to coming and continuing the success of the current program Hays has built.”
