On Friday and Saturday, orchestra students from eight schools participated in the Western Kansas Orchestra Festival in Hays.
The festival is hosted by a different participating school each year, and this is Hays’ turn to host.
The festival began at 1 p.m. on Friday and finished at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
“We expect over 500 students this year,” orchestra teacher Joan Crull said. “The students will be divided into four orchestras.”
According to Crull, each practiced with a guest conductor then the orchestras presented a concert in gym A at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
“The students have been working many hours learning this music and are eager to get together with their orchestras and perform,” Crull said.
Orchestra students from Hays, Salina, Great Bend, Hutchinson, Dodge City, Garden City, and Beloit participated in the festival.
