Students travel to Beloit for metals competition

Students will compete at the NCK Technical College on March 3.

Four students, seniors Lane Pfannensteil, Alanna Hansen, Tanner Hunsicker and sophomore Matt Fross, plan to participate in the North Central Kansas Technical College Welding Competition on March 3. The four, with welding instructor Nathan Howard, will leaving the morning of. With a two-hour drive, Howard says they’re leaving bright and early.

“We’ve got to be there by eight,” Howard said. “We’ll be leaving about six.”

The group will be in Beloit all day and will have the opportunity to win scholarships and other prizes.

“There’s personal prizes for the best welder, like welding hoods, torch tips, things of that nature,” Howard said.

The event will get the students names out and give them opportunities for scholarships while furthering their education.

“I hope to come back placing,” Howard said. “We’ve got some good welders.”
