On April 27, the Hays High School boys tennis team traveled to Colby to compete. Xavier Catura and Henry Fitzthum played No. 1 Doubles, and Carsen Riat and Jack Scoby played No. 2 Doubles. Colin Clark and Kaiden Bunger were No. 1 and No. 2 Singles. Every single and double team that went took first place.

In Great Bend on April 29, Bunger, Clark, Catura and Fitzthum and Kale Schwien and Ken Shaffer played at the Western Athletic Conference meet. Bunger placed third, going 2-2, and Clark finished fourth, going 1-3. Catura and Fitzthum placed second with a 3-1 record, and Schwien and Shaffer ended first with a 4-0 record. Overall, the Indians took third place.

Moving onto regionals in Salina on May 5, the same six who played at WAC competed again for the team. Clark qualified in singles for the state tournament on May 12, as did Catura and Fitzthum in doubles.

“It feels great to make state,” Catura said. “It’s been a goal I’ve worked for throughout the whole off season, and it feels great to get a goal you’ve set for yourself.”
