Brooke Forinash qualifies for state in tennis

Junior Brooke Forinash qualified for state competition in singles after placing sixth in regional action at McPherson on Oct. 11.

Players are seeded depending on their ability and their past wins and losses.

In order to qualify, players had to win their first round, two out of three sets.

Forinash was the seventh seed and played the 10th seed. She won 6-4 and 6-2 against Smokey Valley which gained her two more matches.

After winning one of her two matches in round two, Forinash was placed sixth overall.

Senior Emily McPherson and junior Fabi Pyschny played doubles and was seeded eighth, winning their first match 6-2 and 7-6 (4) against Abilene. But because they lost both their matches in the second round, they were unable to qualify for state.

Singles player freshman Sarah Wyse was seeded 10th and played the fourth seed in the first round. She played hard but was unable to secure a win.

Freshman Gabby Gabby Taliaferro and junior Sylina Zhang got drawn into the 10th seed as well and played the 7 seed. Despite playing well, they were unable to secure a win.
