Students partake in the annual Maroon and Gold Kickoff

The Indians started off the season with their annual Maroon and Gold kick off on Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m.  Dance team and cheerleaders performed while the girls golf team, and cross country teams were introduced. Football and soccer scrimmages were held where players could practice their offense and defense skills as well as focusing on execution.

“My favorite part was when Preston Weigel made a touchdown,” senior Raeanna Peacock said. “I was pretty much on my feet when I saw him only a few feet from the line.”

Each year the student section fills up with anxious students hoping for a heart-racing-game.

“My favorite part is always the student section,” sophomore Kenzie Pfannenstiel said. “I was definitely most excited about the football scrimmage.”

Not only were the students excited, but the players were as well.

“I think we’re going to have a great season this year and were going to surprise a lot people,” senior Tanner Pfeifer said.

Pfeifer had been injured last year and had not been able to play.

“I’m alright with where I have ended up now,” Pfeifer said. “Even though the only thing I can do is kick and be the backup, I am very glad that I can be a part of the football team.”

Students are given the opportunity to dress up for the games. For the regular season specific spirit apparel is assigned.

“I was pretty excited about the halftime show, but also looking forward to seeing everyone in their spirit attire is even better,” Peacock said.

The first football game was held on Sept. 6, at the Lewis Field Stadium vs. the Junction City Bluejays.

“I think if our team keeps up with the hard strive to be better, I’m confident they’ll go far,” Peacock said. “Whatever happens, happens.”

The Indians beat Junction City on Friday night 27-22. Now being 1-O the Indians will take on McPherson at home on Sept. 13.

“I always look forward to it because I love football season,” Pfannenstiel said. “What isn’t there to love?”
