The boys soccer team won its first round regional game at Winfield 2-1 in double-overtime.
Winfield took the early lead as they scored on a volley far post to go up 1-0.
The Indians then came back to tie the game when sophomore Jordan Windholz cross found junior Kellen Griffin as he headed it in just under the crossbar.
At the half the game was tied 1-1.
The second half went scoreless and sent the game into overtime.
The first overtime was a back and forth period as both teams had chances. In the second overtime sophomore Lane Clark played the ball to senior Shane Sulzman who’s shot went off the hand of the Winfield keeper and into the back of the net.
“It felt great to get this win,” Sulzman said. “It’s nice to get a playoff when, this is what we’ve been working for all year.”
The boys soccer team will now face the winner of the Great Bend/Andover game that takes place Tuesday, Oct. 25. Hays will play the game at Great Bend on Thursday, Oct. 27 regardless of who wins.
