The boys soccer team failed to three-peat as the McPherson Invitational champions as it lost to Maize South 2-1 in the finals.
Hays scored first with a goal by Junior Kellen Griffin off of a set piece with 16 minutes left in the first half.
At the half the team was up 1-0.
Maize South then scored twice in the second half to win the game.
“Our team lacked intensity in the game,” junior Josue Lopez said. “We overlooked them and just didn’t play well.”
Senior Tanner Staab and Griffin were the only two players to make the All-Tournament team for the team.
The next game for the boys is Monday, Sept. 12, at Great Bend.
