uill and Scroll induction was held May 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall.

Quill and Scroll is an international high school journalism honor society that recognizes and encourages both individual and group achievements in scholastic journalism.

Hays High has been a chartered member since 1932, although the organization was active off and on until current journalism instructor Jessica Augustine restarted the program in 2020.

To qualify for Quill and Scroll, students must have been a member of newspaper or yearbook for a full year (or two semesters), have a GPA of 3.0 or above (or be in the upper third of their class), have done excellent work in journalism, and complete an application that is approved by the teacher, a panel of judges and the Quill and Scroll executive director.

This year, a total of nine students were inducted, including seniors Alex Coveney and Emry Lundy and juniors Rylee Burd, Shelby Craig, Morgan Engel, Maggi Lindenmeyer, Amedee Randall, Allie Straub and Andrea Tinoco-Ramirez.

“I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time in the Quill and Scroll Honor Society, but I am glad for the time I did have,” Lundy said. “It gives students a chance to benefit their community, work with peers who have similar values and be recognized for their achievements.”
