Indian Grounds raises money for Options organization

On April 24, Indian Grounds took donations and tips for Options, the local domestic and sexual violence services organization. Taking tips from students, they raised over $232.

Instructor Michelle Thacker is the supervisor of Helping Hands, and the Indian Grounds coffee shop.

“I’m thrilled to bits that people put lots of tips in the tip jar,” Thacker said. “It wasn’t just people we sold to, some people came in just to give tips.”

Thacker said that the Helping Hands wanted to host an assisting event because the seminar donations hosted earlier that week didn’t yield very much.

“We wanted to help out monetarily so Options could buy the things they need,” Thacker said. “The seminars just didn’t react very well.”

Options is looking for brand new items of any kind to help victims of abuse who have just gotten out of their situations. Often with children, they need items like food and diapers, as well as new clothes and hygiene items.

The donation period in school has ended, but anyone can still donate to Options through their website or office headquarters at 2716 Plaza Ave. There is more information on how to donate on their website.

“We’d be happy if other schools sponsored community service projects like this one,” Thacker said. “If they do, I hope they’ll get in touch with us.”
