GSA to return

The Gay Straight Alliance is coming back this year. The student taking charge is senior Brianna Mathias with teacher Jessica Butte as the sponsor. The club was put to rest in 2014 because of lack of student participation.

“I was really disappointed last year when they didn’t have it,” Sophomore Alicia Language said.

Mathias plans to start this month and hopes this will bring LGBTQ+ students and hetereo/cis students together in a safe environment. Students will be allowed to discuss their concerns, worries and stories about their sexuality or gender.

“I just wanted students to have a place where they could feel comfortable,” Mathias said.

More information will be out as the month progresses. This group is not just for LGBTQ+ students; all students are allowed to join and are encouraged to do so. GSA is a safe place for everyone of any gender or sexuality.

Mathias is hoping many students will join. There will be activities, snacks and discussions about today’s issues. Support for this group is essential for its continuation.

“We need this kind of group in our school, especially with all the different kinds of students,” Mathias said.
