Volunteers will be going door-to-door collecting non-perishable food items Oct. 9 for the annual ‘Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat’ canned food drive. All Ellis county communities are involved in the food drive. To assure residents that the items collected are for the Community Assistance Center, all volunteers will be wearing an identification badge with “Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat” clearly printed. If you wish to participate, leave items on the porch if you will not be home or do not want someone ringing the doorbell. Youth and adult volunteers from Ellis, Victoria, Schoenchen, and Hays devote their time to making this food drive a success. Any resident of missed houses or those living in rural areas may take food items to the Community Assistance Center in Hays, located at Twelfth and Oak, until noon Oct. 31. DECA still needs groups and organizations to assist with this year’s collection. Contact Schaina Prough at Hays High School (623-2600) if you are interested in helping or need additional information. 13ahickert@usd489.com
