Boys golf closes regular season at Garden City, Great Bend, Liberal

The Hays High School boys golf team headed to the Garden City tournament on April 25, where they earned second as a team with a 335 and placed three players inside of the Top 10.

Senior Caleb Thompson fired a seven-over-par with 79 and placed fifth. Senior Braxton Banker placed seventh with an 82, and junior Cooper L Johnson placed ninth with an 85.

The Indians went to Great Bend on April 29, where they were looking for another successful tournament. The team shot a combined score of 331 and were just one shot behind second-place Garden City.

Johnson shot eight over par with 78 and finished in fifth place. Sophomore Trey Oakley was seventh with an 83, sophomore Caleb Thompson just missed a Top 10 finish with an 84 and freshman Mason Simons shot an 86.

For the last regular season tournament, the Indians travelled to Liberal to compete at the Willow Tree Golf Course on May 7. Two Indians placed in the Top 10.

Banker fired an eight-over-par 80 and finished sixth. Thompson shot an 81 and placed 10th. Johnson and Oakley both had rounds of 83 and finished just outside the Top 10.

The next action for the team will be at regionals on May 13, followed by state on May 20-21.
