Junior Lakin Ditter has been involved with the Hays High swim team since her freshman year of school. The 2016 girls swim team consists of nine current members. Ditter considers swimming one of her favorite sports and plans to continue with it in her free time after high school.

1. What age were you when you first got involved with swimming?

“I started when I was 11 years old.”

2. Have you been on other teams besides the high school team?

“Yes, I swim on Hays Hurricanes, it’s the club team in Hays.”

3. Did you ever have second thoughts about joining the high school swim team?

“No, I always knew that’s what I wanted to do.”

4. What experiences have you gained from being a part of the team?

“I have learned that team work means so much, and that being a part of a team is awesome.”

5. Do you plan to continue with swimming in college?

“I plan to keep swimming on my own, but probably not on a team since at club ends at 18.”

6. Are any of your other family members involved with swimming?

“My little sister, Loganne, swims on the Hays High team as well.”

7. What events do you usually participate in?

“I usually swim 100 butterfly, 100 breast stroke, 200 medley relay, and 400 free relay.”

8. Have you participated in state for swim in the past?

“No I haven’t.”

9. Do you have a favorite stroke?

“My favorite stroke is butterfly.”

10. Do you have any embarrassing stories from swim team?

“Bus rides, I mean I think everyone understand how bus rides go.”

11. Would you consider swimming to be your favorite sport?

“Definitely.”

12. What would you say your other hobbies are besides swimming?

“I like to hang out with my friends, and I enjoy watching movies.”

13. What would you like to tell anyone considering joining the swim team in the following years?

“Honestly, just go out for swimming because who knows, you might be super great at it AND it’s lots of fun. Plus, the coaches at Hays High are amazing and they will make you work hard. If you’re really interested in it, I promise you’ll be great by the end of the season.”
