Students turn in laptops

It’s the end of the year and the time has come for students to turn in their laptops. Whether this is a sad or celebratory event, there are certain requirements that must be fulfilled before a laptop can be turned in.

If a laptop has been damaged, a damage report must be filed before turning in the computer, or it will not be accepted.

Computer Control Unit (CCU) worker Zach Meyer said students must turn in the Accidental Damage Report.

“Sometimes we see computers that were obviously accidental damage, but if they don’t report it we have to charge it,” Meyer said.

Decorative stickers must be completely removed as well.

“Students often return laptops with a lot of stickers on the computers,” Meyer said. “If we have to spend a lot of time cleaning, we will either end up charging a $10 clean-up fee or charging for the price of the part.”

Meyer said stickers need to be removed because they try to get each computer back to a condition that they would feel comfortable giving the same computer to a new student.

“After you peel a sticker off, if there is still some adhesive stuck to the computer, use a cloth with some Goo Gone sprayed on the cloth,” Meyer said.

Seniors turned in laptops May 7 in seminar.

Freshman, sophomores and juniors turn in laptops May 15 and 16 at the beginning of GPS classes.

The school laptops may not be the most high dollar devices, yet they are important to the school and it is important to keep them nice for years to come.
