Select seniors participate in Dane G. Hansen scholarship interviews

Sixteen Hays High seniors were accepted for Dane G. Hansen scholarship interviews after they took the Hansen Academic Scholarship test, which could only be administered to students with an ACT composite score of 21 or higher and at least a 3.5 GPA.

The interviews run over the course of two weeks, excluding weekends, from Monday, Feb. 7 through Friday, Feb. 11 and Monday, Feb. 14 through Friday, Feb. 18. They occurred at the Dane G. Hansen Foundation Office in Logan, Kan.

The interviews can qualify seniors for several different scholarships, including the Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, the Hansen Scholar and the Hansen Student scholarships.

The Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship awards students $10,000 and can be renewed for three additional years. Seven students can win this scholarship. The Hansen Scholar scholarship awards up to 35 students $6,500 and can also be renewed for three additional years. The Hansen Student scholarship is for $4,000, but this one can only be renewed for one additional year; however, 70 students can win this one.

Senior Grace McCord qualified for a Dane G. Hansen interview.

“I think the interview went well once I got comfortable,” McCord said.

McCord’s interview fell on Monday, Feb. 7 at 10:20 a.m. Interviews took 15-20 minutes.

“I didn’t know what to expect, so it was definitely a learning experience,” McCord said. “It prepared me for interviews that I’ll participate in in the future.”
