Poetry Out Loud info

Poetry Out Loud is a National Recitation contest. You must be a high school student (grades 9-12) and a U.S. citizen to compete.

Students wanting to participate must register with Mrs. Wagoner by Friday, January 9.

Local competition will be held on January 19; time to be announced later.

In the contest, the student advances through four levels: local, regional, state and nationals.

Making it to nationals means the student has a chance of winning $20,000 in scholarships.

Each winner at the state level receives $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip with an adult/legal guardian to Washington to compete for the

national championship. The state winner’s school receives a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books. The first runner-up in each state

receives $100, with $200 for his or her school library. A total of $50,000 in awards.

More information can be found at poetryoutloud.org or Mrs. Wagoner’s room (110).
