Winter Olympics in full swing

This year the Winter Olympics is being held in Sochi, Russia. The games are scheduled for February 7 to February 23.

This is the first time the Olympics has been held in Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

There are a total of 98 events in the Winter Olympics.

“My favorite event to watch during the Winter Olympics is slalom skiing,” sophomore Scott Ring said. “I can relate more to the Summer Olympics because I swim and therefore I like to watch swimming the best during the Summer Olympics.

Students usually have a preference of whether they like to watch Winter Olympics or Summer Olympics.

“I like to watch the Summer Olympics more because of the gymnastics,” freshman Emily Brinley said. “I think it looks really cool and is fun to watch.”

Some students watch the Olympics because of the tradition it holds but others never got into the tradition of watching them.

“I don’t watch the Olympics and never really have,” junior Rachel Orth said.

Many students try to keep up with the competition in the Olympics as a tradition of the games.
