Hays High School started off its spring baseball season with wins against teams from Salina.
On Wednesday, March 27, the Indians faced off against Salina Central for their first game of the night. While Salina started off the game 2-0, by the third inning, Hays tied it up, 2-2. Hays continued to score, moving the game to 8-2. Salina Central scored one more time before the game ended, finalizing the game at 8-3 with the Indians winning.
The second game against Salina Central started with the Indians up 3-0. During the course of the game, the Mustangs would go on to score five runs, but not enough for the Indians’ 7-5 win.
This strong start to the season is seen by players on the team as the beginning of a trend for the team, hoping for more wins in the future.
“I’m super excited!” senior Nolan Dreher said. “I think we’ve got the guys this year to really make some noise at state. Just getting better every day.”
