On Nov. 12, the Indian football team traveled to Maize to play their 5A quarterfinal game, but lost 48-36.
The first quarter of the game was a battle of the offenses, with each team scoring back to back. The Indians opted to try for the two-point conversions both times they scored for a 16-14 lead.
In the half, senior Jaren Kanak made a run in which he blocked six Maize defenders and finished the run with a touchdown; that play was featured on various social media platforms and ESPN “SportsCenter” the next day.
Following an interception from senior Wyatt Crain, the score at halftime was 27-22, in favor of Maize.
The Indians had a slew of misplays to open the second half, which resulted in multiple Maize touchdowns, and the Indians fell behind more.
Hays High was able to have many consecutive offensive drives, but in the end, they was not able to overcome the scoring deficit, losing to Maize, 48-36.
The Indians finish 8-3 on the season after earning a share of the Western Athletic Conference title and making it to the quarterfinals. but will be hopeful for next year’s season.
