Soccer team battles to 1-1 overtime tie against McPherson

After two scoreless overtime periods, the boys soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie with McPherson in the Indians home opener on Sept. 4.

Hays got on the board first when junior Riley Zimmerman scored at the 51st minute of the second half. McPherson evened the scored 11 minutes later with a goal that sent the game into overtime.

In the first extra period, Hays had three shots on goal compared to only one for the Bullpups. The Indians then outshot McPherson 1-0 in the second overtime.

Sophomore keeper Conner Staab had seven saves on the day, while McPherson’s goalie was kept busy with 15.

The next action for the Indians is set for Sept. 9 when the begin play at the Maize South Invitational, which continues on Sept. 11 and 13.
