Varsity Scholars Bowl students competed at the Wichita East High School Invitational meet on Nov. 2.

Those who competed included juniors Anna Brull, Andrew Duke (captain) and Alicia Feyerhermsophomore Liahna Hyatt and freshman Evan Dealy.

The meet consisted of standard 16question rounds, containing questions from World Language, Social Studies, Language Arts, Fine Arts, Science, Math and a Year in Review question.

However, unlike any other meet in the state, some questions were marked “For Power.” If a question was marked “For Power,” teams could earn 15 points instead of the typical 10 points per question if the question was answered by a certain point in the question’s reading.

The team played six rounds of pool play, ending pool play with a win-loss record of 5–1. After pool play, the team advanced to elimination rounds. The team made it to quarterfinals and then lost in a tie-breaker. This was the first varsity meet of the season.

“I am really proud of how we did on Saturday,” Brull said. “There was a lot of tough competition, but I feel like we really proved ourselves early in the season, and we can only go up from here.”
