Chess Club has first meeting of the year in the library
During the meeting, sponsor Erin Holder discussed what is planned for the club during the year and explained how the club will work.
Chess Club had its first meeting this year on Oct. 3. The meeting was held in the library and started at 3:15 p.m. and ended around 4 p.m.
During the meeting, sponsor Erin Holder discussed what is planned for the club during the year and explained how the club will work.
One of Holder’s goals is to have students compete in as many tournaments as possible this year. Tournaments are generally once a month on a Saturday.
“One of the requirements for state at the end of the year is you have to win two games at two different tournaments,” Holder said. “So, I want to provide as many opportunities as I can for the kids to qualify for state.”
Holder also said the club lost a lot of students this year because most of the tournament players last year were seniors. However, she said she still hopes they will do as well as they did last year.
“Chess Club meetings will be every Thursday at 3:15 pm in the library, until 4:30 to 5 p.m., depending how long your games go,” Holder said.
