The DECA chapter visited Wilson Elementary School on Dec. 10 to make snowmen crafts with fourth graders.

“Last year we made tie blankets with people who are in the after school program at Wilson and this year we wanted to talk to those same students again and spread awareness about the Ronald McDonald House Charity,” senior Isabelle Braun said.

Braun and senior Kallie Leiker have been working on the RMHC over the past two years by doing various projects to raise money and awareness for the organization.

“While we were there I got up and told them a little bit about what the charities were and how they helped people,” Braun said.

Then Leiker did a demonstration on how to snowmen out of socks and the kids got to personalize and decorate their snowmen.

“After they finished they wrote a little note to the people so we could give the snowmen to the families,” Braun said.

They met with the Wilson art teacher, Theresa Gross a head of time to discuss details.

“Any of the supplies we had for it like pipe cleaners, markers, yarn, string, and other things, we got from Mrs. Gross,” Braun said. “She donated all that, and it was really nice of her, and we really appreciated it.”

Braun enjoyed getting to watch the high schoolers interact and work with the elementary schoolers.

“They built relationships, and I know that some of the kids that we made snowmen with also helped us tie blankets last year, so it was good to talk to them again,” Braun said.
