‘Hocus Pocus’ is a magical comedy that is sure to make you smile

During this time of the year, there are a lot of good Halloween movies to choose from, but “Hocus Pocus” is a classic that people watch to this day.

The 1993 film is about the Dennison family, who just moved to Salem, Mass., from California. The oldest child, Max, does not believe in greatly celebrated holiday of Halloween, but after hearing what his classmate Allison has to say, he reluctantly changes his mind.

Later that Halloween night, Max takes his little sister Dani trick-or-treating, and they end up at Allison’s house. Allison discovers that Dani is one of the Sanderson sisters, the witches who were executed 300 years ago that very night, and they go to the old and abandoned Sanderson house.

While at the house, Allison informs Max and Dani that the witches can come back one for night if a virgin lights the Black Flame Candle. Max then lights the candle and brings back the old witches themselves.

They escape the witches and take their magic spell book and meet Binx, a boy who was cursed by the sisters and turned into an immortal cat; he has been waiting for 300 years for someone to light the candle so he can defeat the witches and reunite with his family.

Throughout the film, the four of them outrun the witches and stop them from feeding off the souls of children and return them to the grave.

At the end of the film, Binx is reunited with his family and the three adolescents return home to their families.

This movie is perfect for the spooky season; whether it is to get into the Halloween spirit or just for a good laugh, “Hocus Pocus” is a spectacular choice.
