Student Council Attends Regional Conference

On Sept 27, Student Council members of Hays High attended the StuCo Regional Conferences in Ellsworth. StuCo Regionals were held at eight different locations throughout Kansas.

“This became the date due to Homecoming conflicts,” teacher Melinda Cross said.

In the past few years Student Council has varied in members from a high being 70 to as few as 20.

“We are, of course, able to do more if our membership comes to meeting and makes a commitment to work on our projects,” Cross said. “We take care of Homecoming for the school, Blood Drives in the Fall and Spring, Seatbelts Are For Everyone, and I-Flurtz in February.”

StuCo takes part in Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat, after prom Fashion Show for the Sterling House, Indian Call, and the annual talent show as well.

“We also add activities as we are able when funding or members are available to work,” Cross said.

HHS Student Council officers are Abby Garrett, President; Macey Pfeifer, Vice President; Adam Kober, Treasurer; Samantha Rohleder, Secretary and Public Relations. Lisa Renz and Melinda Cross are the advisors.

“I have been at HHS for 14 years and throughout every one of those years been involved in Student Council,” Cross said.

Each year the Student Council tries to make HHS a better place to go to high school and with everyone’s commitment that becomes possible.
