Boys soccer mercy rules Independence

A 7-0 halftime lead propelled the Indians to an 11-1 victory in the first round of the McPherson Tournament against Independence.

The Indians started out the first half fast with junior Jordan Windholz putting in two goals in the first five minutes.

“Those first two goals pumped me up and helped our team win,” Windholz said.

The first half was dominated by Hays as the game went into half time.

Independence came out fast in the second half scoring the first goal of the half to make it 7-1.

Hays then put in four goals after that to apply the 10-goal mercy rule. The game came to a close with 25 minutes left in the half.

Scorers for the Indians were Windholz with six, senior Kellen Griffin with two, junior Shawn Herrman with two and junior Lane Clark with one.

The Indians play Thomas More Prep-Marian in the semis of the McPherson Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m.
