The girls soccer team competed in the McPherson Invitational over the last week and claimed second place on Saturday.
In the first round the girls played Topeka High and had an easy 6-0 victory.
The second round game was much closer as the girls played host McPherson. The game went scoreless through regulation and overtime sending the game into overtime. Hays made its first three penalties and McPherson missed its first three ending the game and sending the Indians onto the championship.
The championship game was a tight game as well with the girls playing Andover Central. Central was leading 1-0 at the half. Freshman Brooke Russell then scored early on in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. Andover Central then got the game winning goal in the 57th minute.
Juniors Laura Truman and Taylor Herman made the all-tournament team for Hays.
The next game for the girls is Tuesday versus Dodge City.
