On April 28 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hays High School held its Masterworks Concert.

Hays High School’s Chamber Singers and Chamber Orchestra performed during the hour-long concert.

Starting at 3 p.m., the Chamber Singers opened the concert by performing “Membra Jesu Nostri Mvmt 3 Ad Manus” by Buxtehude. The second piece they performed was “To the Hands” by Caroline Shaw. During both pieces, the Chamber Singers were joined by a string quintet.

After months of rehearsal, the Chamber Orchestra, along with woodwind, brass and percussion, performed all four movements of Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony.”

“I consider the Masterworks Concert a great success,” orchestra instructor Brayden Smith said. “The level of musicianship and skill displayed was beyond impressive. The HHS string students spent so much time and energy on the piece, and it really elevated the abilities and expectations of the group. To see the HHS students and community wind players come together to create such an awesome experience was truly humbling to be a part of.”
