Staff member reviews ‘The Creator’ movie

“The Creator” is a newly released science fiction movie that takes place on Earth, after the aftermath of a nuclear strike on Los Angeles has swept the United States and “New Asia” into a war against artificial intelligence. The United States declares war on AI, and New Asia harbors it.

The main character in this movie is Joshua, played by John David Washington, who is a former Special Forces agent recruited to eliminate the head of AI, called the Creator. The movie follows him after the supposed death of his wife Maya, played by Gemma Chan, as he is brought back into service to kill the new super weapon created by AI to destroy the U.S. orbital station, called Nomad.

“The Creator” was easy to follow, yet still kept viewers on their toes, thinking about what would happen next. The story, although cliché at times, had elements that made it stand out from the science fiction genre with its different telling of the AI versus human story and its compelling characters – both those who you want to see succeed and those who you want to see fail. It has all the elements viewers want in a great science fiction story, like futuristic weapons and flying vehicles, plus the graphics are amazing.

The movie is from the creators of movies such as “Rouge 1” and “Mission Impossible 7,” and it made $32.3 million here in the states and a total of $79.5 million worldwide. It has an overall rating of 3.4/5 on Google with 1,087 ratings, a 7.1/10 on IMDB, 67 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.8/5 on Facebook.

All together, I would give “The Creators” an 8/10, as it is an interesting take on the fight between AI and humans. I personally would love to see a sequel, but in the meantime, I would definitely recommend that you see the movie, as you will be able to stream it on Disney Plus or Hulu this coming December.
