Halfway through Hays High School’s Homecoming football game against Dodge City on Friday, Oct. 11, the Homecoming queen and king were announced.
The candidates for queen were Kiera Dealy, Kallyn Meyers, Avery Solida, Reaghan Wamser and Dani Willeford. Willeford won Homecoming queen.
The candidates for king were Oscar Flores, LeRoy Goodspeed, Feyden Hileman, Cooper L. Johnson and Wyatt Kirkpatrick. Johnson won Homecoming king.
“I feel very honored to be recognized in such a way by all my peers,” Johnson said. “I think that it is a huge achievement, and it really goes to show that your actions towards other don’t go unnoticed. It feels amazing to know that my peers care and appreciate me in such a way that they would honor me with this award.”
The football game then finished with a win from Hays, as the Indians beat the Dodge City Demons, 26-0.
The Homecoming dance started at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 and had a record number of almost 800 students attending. The theme for the dance was “Candyland.”
Each of the days the week of Oct. 7-11 leading up to the dance were Spirit Days, and students were encouraged to participate for class points, as well as general fun. The Spirit Days included “‘Merica Monday,” “Rhyme Without Reason Tuesday,” “Wacky Outfit Wednesday,” “Class Colors Day” on Thursday and “Dress to Impress” on Friday.
“My favorite part of Homecoming week was probably the Spirit Days,” Willeford said. “I had so much fun dressing up!”
