The Scholars Bowl team has 18 members this year, who have been studying and practicing for their upcoming competitions.
Practices for the team are every Thursday afternoon and every Friday morning, but students are only required to attend one practice a week.
“We want students to be able to attend practice and still be able to pursue all their interests,” Cheryl Shepherd-Adams, team sponsor and science teacher, said.
The first competition for the team was the “Battle of the Brains,” at Hays High School in the Lecture Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Instead of facing other schools’ students, the team competed against a group of faculty and staff members, including Paul English, Heath Meder, John Neal and Alex Underwood and assistant principal Becky Hickert. Principal Shawn Henderson moderated the event
“Our team this year looks exceptionally strong,” Shepherd-Adams said. “We have a lot of returning seniors and a promising crop of sophomores and freshmen who are learning the ropes of high school competition.”
