Orchestra students across district perform in All City Strings Concert on April 26
Orchestra students across USD 489 performed in the All City Strings Concert on April 26.
The concert was held in the Hays Middle School gym. Hays High Orchestra performed “Entrance and March of the Guests” by Wagner/Dackow, “Birch Bay Mtv. 1” by Richard Meyer and “Tam Lyn-Scottish Fiddle Tune” arranged by Plohman, Phillips. The Hays High Chamber Orchestra performed “Concerto Grosso in D Allegro” by Vivaldi. 5-12 grade orchestra students performed “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven/Mark and arranged by Nathan Mark together.
“I think my favorite part of the concert was our small group that performed,” senior Trinity Callis said. “We did not have much time to practice, but we all worked very hard. Plus, it was cool getting to play in a school chamber ensemble.”
Three seniors received scholarships from the Orchestra Booster Club. Skylar Weilart received a $150 scholarship, Eric Adams received a $200 scholarship and Trinity Callis received a $350 scholarship.
“We had to fill out an application, have our instructor fill out a recommendation and audition in front of judges,” Callis said. “I was very surprised when I received my scholarship. The other two are great people and talented musicians. I am glad we were all able to receive a scholarship.”
