13 questions with sophomore William Martin
Sophomore Will Martin has been playing soccer for many years and considers it one of his hobbies and passions. Along with playing on the Hays High soccer team, Martin has also played for Hays Soccer Club and also attended the 2014 FIFA mens World Cup in Brazil. Planning to continue soccer in his future, Martin said he also has plans to attend college and play college level soccer.
1.When did you first become interested in soccer?
“I started playing at five or six, but didn’t take it seriously until I was 10.”
2.What makes soccer stand out from other sports?
“For me, soccer stands out from other sports. It is very fast pace and it is really the only sport that truly requires you to use your feet.”
3.How was going to the world cup and what was it like going?
“Going to the world cup was great. My dad, my uncle and I went to watch four games.”
4.What do you think about HHS soccer?
“I feel that we are getting better but need to keep improving.”
5.Do you have any soccer teams you look up to?
“I look up to sporting KC.”
6.Do you have a favorite soccer player?
“Dom Dwyer and Amadou Dia are my favorite players.”
7.Do you think you will continue soccer after high school?
“I would like to go and play at the college level.”
8.What are your plans after high school?
“Go to college.”
9.What position do you play in soccer?
“I play every position except Goalkeeper.”
10.What was your favorite game you played?
“When we played Great Bend at a home game and I scored.”
11.Most memorable moment about soccer?
“Probably my most memorable moment in soccer was playing with no subs. Five of us guys played on an indoor team in Wichita during the offseason.”
12.How many goals/assists have you had in the last 2 years?
“I scored one goal and I don’t really know how many assists I have had.”
13.What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in soccer?
“I don’t know. Maybe winning Gov Cup with Saul back in my Hays Soccer Club days.”
