“Joy” movie review
“Joy” starring Jennifer Lawrence is the story of Joy Mongano, an American inventor and business woman who invented the stability miracle mop needed. Joy and her father Rudy (Robert Di Niro) go through common life obstacles to overcome her goal to make the first self-ringing mop.
As Joy goes through certain difficulties like dealing with a divorce and taking care of her father who also split with his significant other, she works hard to take care of her two children and maintain financially stable.
Joy’s mother, Terry, played by Virginia Madsen is very emotionally broken and spends most of her time in her bedroom, until later when there is a leak in the pipes and a plumber from Haiti comes to fix it and they fall in love.
While Joy is working to manufacture her mop, her father Rudy meets a rich woman who soon becomes his girlfriend Trudy. She is a widow who has a lot of money from her previous deceased husband.
Trudy agrees to help Joy financially with the invention of her mop, however, they start to lose a lot of money due to Joy’s manufacturing company who increased their prices to build the mop.
In the midst of trying to invent a new mop, deal with her emotional mother, and the divorce of her ex-husband, one woman stays true to Joy and that is her grandmother, Mimi.
Finally, after multiple attempts to get her mop “booming”, she finds something that could change the invention of her mop forever, maybe even her life.
I give this movie an eight out of 10 because it does start off a little bit slow. However, the movie definitely keeps you on your toes waiting to see what happens next. Not to mention, this movie portrays where hard work and never giving up gets you.
