Hays Arts Council information for competition

Special to the HDN Starving Kansas artists could find their next meal more affordable if fortune smiles upon them during the Hays Art’s Council’s 46th annual Smoky Hill Art Competition and Exhibition.

The competition is open to any Kansas artist. The exhibition will run from April 24 to June 4, but entries are due to the HAC by Tuesday.

All two and three dimensional works are eligible for competition. Preliminary selection will be made from color photographic prints of the works. Photographs should be no smaller than 5 inches by 7 inches and no larger than 8 inches by 11 inches. One photo will be accepted for each 2-D entry, and 3-D pieces may be presented through up to three pictures.

Up to two entries may be made with an initial $25 fee, but two additional, creations may be submitted at a cost of $5 each. A complete competition prospectus can be found and downloaded at www.haysartscounsil.org.

Juror for the competition will be Stephen Goddard, associate director and senior curator for the Spencer Museum of Art and history-of-art professor at the University of Kansas. At his discretion, a total of $2,700 in cash prizes will be awarded.
