Valuable prizes up for grabs in upcoming campaign

Hays High will be participating in the State Farm Celebrate My Drive, a program created to reward teen drivers for staying safe on the road. All those who are interested can make a commitment to safe driving starting on Oct. 15. This opportunity ends on Oct. 24.

Celebrate My Drive is basically a celebration for schools registered to potentially have a chance at some high stakes prizes, such as a $100,000 or $25,000 Grant for the school, and possibly even one of the two Grand Prize concerts featuring Grammy nominated The Band Perry.

To support Hays High, those interested can register once a day until Oct. 24. The leaderboard, which will show the top 50 small and 50 large schools with the current largest amount of commitments, will be updated about every five minutes until Oct. 23. Hays High will be included in the small schools category.

“Students, parents, grandparents, anybody from the community of Hays can register,” Athletics Director Chris Michaelis said. “Celebrate My Drive is spreading the message of 2N2— 2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel— in the hopes of encouraging safer driving.”

Celebrate My Drive doesn’t just apply to students; it also deals with the adults of the community.

“This commitment is not just for teen drivers, it’s for anybody,” Michaelis said. “We still need to remind adults that they need to drive safely. Adults get distracted, like teens, with texting, the radio, and other things. Everyone needs to practice safe driving.”

Information that will be collected for those who register to commit include: first and last name, date of birth, email address, and name of high school being supported.

“We would appreciate the community of Hays in promoting the safe driving habits of Celebrate My Drive,” Michaelis said. “It’s for a good cause.”

A link where students and the community can make their commitment will be posted on the Hays High website starting on Oct. 15.
