DECA goes to ICDC

Thirteen DECA students will be attending the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta this upcoming weekend. These students will be leaving on May 3 and coming home on May 7.

“Basically, the students will compete in their event,” DECA instructor Shaina Prough said. “These events can range from interactive business to community service to creative marketing and much more.”

The students will compete against other students from around the world.

“They’ll compete in their event, up against almost 160 other students,” Prough said. “There will probably be about 15,000 students at the conference.”

Even despite the large amount of competition, there are rewards.

“Some of the prizes include winning cash, scholarships, and even vacations to places like Las Vegas,” Prough said.

To junior Rylie Rowland, getting to go to ICDC is a big deal.

“My event is community service,” Rowland said. “I’m excited because there’s not as much pressure, for me personally, any more.”

Not only are the students ecstatic about the competition, their instructor is also excited.

“This year, we were full of newbies,” Prough said. “It will be a good learning experience for the students.”
