Band, orchestra, and vocal students work for months before taking their solos to regionals. They take lessons, work on them at home and school and perform them in front of their peers.

“This year it was my first time at contest and I was extremely nervous,” freshman Griffin Lowry said. “However, when I got on stage and started playing, I wasn’t nervous at all. I ended up getting a one and was very satisfied.”

First time soloists show their courage by stepping out to be judged on something they have never done before.

“This year was the first time I sang a solo in contest,” junior Becky Meagher said. “It was scary but exciting and energizing at the same time. Even though I didn’t score the best, it went well by the fact that I performed, survived it and gained experience.”

Returning soloists know the pressure of contest and although it’s stressful they return every year with new solos and improvement.

“Contest was about the same this year as every other year, still stressful,” senior Amy Jordan said. “This year I was in three performances instead of six and I found that helped lower the stress level a lot. I got all one ratings and am now going to work really hard on perfecting them for state.”

If the music students who performed at Regionals received a one, they will perform at State on April 26.
