Students stress importance of local fundraiser

Freddy’s Frozen Custard is holding a fundraiser for the Chloe Medina family on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Fifteen percent of every order placed from 5 to 8 p.m. will go directly to the Medina family.

Chloe is a two-year-old girl battling Leukemia. The funds will help pay for her treatments and gas money used for traveling to and from doctor appointments.

Students feel that it is important to support the cause.

“Chloe’s dad used to work at Hays High, and we are a community so we should help and support each other,” junior Tessa Johnson said.

Sophomore Brooks Barber said that cancer has a big effect on families.

“It’s important to attend because the more money we can raise for Chloe the better,” Barber said. “Cancer affects families big time, both emotionally and physically. It’s very hard to deal with and the cost can be really stressful.”

Chloe’s family has to make long drives to get her to where she can be treated which burdens the family financially with gas costs and medical bills.

Junior Kali Pitcock said that it is cool to see the community get involved in helping the Medina family.

“I can’t go, but people need to attend to raise money for the family,” Pitcock said.

Sophomore Hannah Blanchard shared why she will be attending Freddy’s.

“I am going to support a good cause and I would love to help out with the money,” Blanchard said. “My heart really goes out for Chloe.”
